Yami Bakura Cosplay - W.I.P

Description

I wanted one for the gallery, so I took one of the few pictures I have and spruced it up a bit.
And since our apartment has crap-tastic lighting, I had to adjust the colors quite a bit. Hopefully it doesn't look too tacky.

Here's the story behind this:

I have never cosplayed or been to a con in my entire life, and despite the fact I'm oddly surrounded by manga-lovers and such, I've never had any interest in manga or culture that surrounds it. I've always figured that attending a con would be fun, if rather frightening, but I would only attend a con if it was nearby and if I was cosplaying, and I would only cosplay if I was willing to spend the cash on a costume, and I would only bother to do any of that if the con gave me a damn good reason to attend it. Up to that point, it hadn't, so I never thought twice about cosplaying as anyone or anything.

Now, not too long ago, my sister got me into Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series. All I can say is that it's frickin' hilarious, and my favorite character by far is Melvin. But I digress. After watching the episodes, I considered a YGOTAS cosplay for, like, two minutes before scratching the idea; I just didn't have the incentive to do something like that. Not without that damn good reason.

Not too long after I got into YGOTAS, my sister announced to me that its creator, LittleKuriboh, was going to attend a con in June, a con that's maybe ten minutes away from where we live.
So there it was. My damn good reason just dropped out of the sky, and I suddenly had no good reason NOT to attend this con and see LittleKuriboh.
And con means cosplays, of course.

Because of my pasty red-head complexion and otherwise serious appearance, I couldn't go as Marik Ishtar like I originally wanted to; I decided to leave that up to my sister, who can get a phenomenal tan and create an array of expressions that probably shouldn't exist outside of animation. Seriously. She can make the best Melvin face ever (I'm just going to keep saying it).

So I'm going as Yami Bakura...or Florence, if you will.

Some Notes on this Cosplay:

So far the creation of this cosplay has been nothing but smooth-sailing and stellar results. I still have a ways to go yet, but I'll just reiterate some info about the materials I've found and what creating this cosplay has been like so far.

Wig: This wig I got from the best online wig shop you will ever find: Arda Wigs. I've only seen miracles worked by those who've bought and styled these wigs. They're soft, manageable, and don't have a nasty shine to them under a camera flash. I bought a Jareth-style wig in Pure White for Bakura. Right now it's unstyled, but I'm not going to keep it that way. I plan to style it just like Yami Bakura's, using armatures and hairspray. I'll need to order extra wefts because the color is kind of transparent. My suggestion: if you buy from arda, and you need a white wig, get it in "Silver". It's the same color but with more pigment.

Striped Shirt: These are two shirts, one blue and one white, I just hacked into strips and sewed back together. It worked a lot better that I thought it would.

Light-Blue Shirt: I scored big-time with this. I was out shopping with my best friend (a guy) to whom I was explaining the difficulties I will face in finding this piece to my costume, when lo-and-behold I spot this on the clearance rack in the men's work department at Target. It's exactly what I needed.

I may edit this and put more info in later, but for now, here's my in-progress cosplay!
